Saying goodbye to my pet

Dear Family and Friends,

One of my dear cats has been diagnosed with a very aggressive mouth cancer. He also has liver disease. A couple months ago he bounced back from the liver disease (i.e. starting eating again, gaining weight…), but he has lost his appetite again and won’t eat. As I write this, he is lying on my lap just like he always has. He still wants me to hold him so it makes this even harder. The vet has given him a couple pain shots and medicine in the past few weeks but now says they won’t help. His face is swollen as the cancer has advanced, so it’s with a heavy heart that I have decided to take him to the vet Monday for his final visit.

It’s so hard to make this decision but I don’t want him to suffer anymore. At the same time, I feel very guilty. I really wish I knew what to do with these feelings. Nothing seems to help. I write this as a tribute to my loving boy, Rutherford. You will never be forgotten. RIP.
